Cricket Weekend 2013

NACTON CRICKET CLUB 3 DAY CRICKET FESTIVAL

CRICKET WEEKEND 2013

Dear All,
With the inaugural Cricket Weekend now over, please can I thank everyone who has helped to make it a great success. Whether it be making a cake, donating a raffle prize or even buying a beer you have helped the club to raise a significant amount of money, thank you. To see so many people braving the rain on Saturday evening and enjoying the cricket on both Sunday and Monday showed that we do have the capability of appealing to the wider community - something I hope we can tap into in the future.

Before I sign off please can I just thank a few people without whom the weekend wouldn't have been the success it has:
Baf, JW and Greg who have all helped in the planning, organising and running of the weekend and giving time to ensure things ran smoothly.
The Bafico Family Always helping out throughout the season and they have been ever present this weekend and their support and work has been invaluable.
The Warner Family for running the bar and BBQ, cooking breakfast on the Sunday and making sure everyone always had access to a cup of tea and cake (even when the organisers had overseen this bit!). Keeping the bar stocked with Bulmers was never easy but they did it! Thank you.

The Cricket Weekend has undoubtedly been a success and I hope we can now build on this in future years to ensure that Nacton continues to thrive and develop.
I don’t have a full break down but I can confirm the following was raised:

  • Breakfasts: £32.00
  • Spot The Ball: £50:00
  • BBQ: £227.00
  • Bar : £545.00
  • Everything Else: £511.50 (Which includes: Cake Stall, Raffle, Tombola, Curry Night, B Castle)
  • TOTAL: £1,365.50
  • Thank you again to all who supported us this weekend.

    Alex Brunt

DAY 1 | SATURDAY 24TH AUGUST

Two Counties Cricket Championship - Nacton CC versus Boxted CC
With great optimism the Two Counties match between Nacton and Boxted got under way on time. With rain in the forecast the match was reduced to 40 overs a side. After 29.5 over Boxted had reached 99-3 then the predicted rain came - and did it fall! The match was abandoned with Nacton taking 7 points and Boxted taking 6.
With the village underwater, indeed access under the railway bridge was closed, the plans for the evening had to be changed, Tipps band being cancelled but the bar was open and curry being served, all those who managed to get to the Stadium had a great evening.
Note: Greg Songer produced a particularly spicy curry and early reports are that no one fell ill as a result

DAY 2 | SUNDAY 25TH AUGUST

Six-a-side Competition
After the two inches of rain from the night before the 'Nacton Ground Staff' did an amazing job to prepare the pitch for the days activities. The Sunday was a 'Fun Day'with a 10.30am start for the six-a-side tournament. Five teams turned out, including a couple from a touring side from Lincolnshire. The Community Council provided 'Brunch' from 9am which set the day up nicely. DJ 'L Dog' Rush was on the 'wheels of steel' providing musical entertainment throughout the day. A good crowd had turned out to support the club. After several rounds of six-a-side matches the eventual winners were from the hosts.

DAY 3 | MONDAY 26TH AUGUST

Festival Match- Nacton CC Chairman's XI versus Gentlemen of Suffolk XI
Ellis Baker hosted the match between a Nacton select XI and the Gentlemen of Suffolk XI on the bank holiday Monday - cricket, beer and food was available throughout the day. Another fantastic day in glorious weather.
This finished off a fantastic cricket weekend. We had plenty of cricket and socialising. It was great to see so many Nactonians past and present plus our visiting team playing a major part into the success of the event.
